=============================================================================== CONTENTS OF THE DIRECTORY This directory contains observational data concerning the eclipses of the Galilean satellites of Jupiter from 1652 to 1983 . One will find: 1) - The file obs_eclips_jup.dat Contents - file containing 16 802 observations of eclipse events on 284 oppositions of Jupiter since June, 1652 to November ,1983, - these observations are made from 426 observatories, - it provides, . the observed time of the mid-event (UT), . the type of the event D (disappearance) when the satellite went into the umbra cone, R (reappearance) when it went out of the cone, . the residuals O-C in seconds for the mid-event, . the a priori uncertainty, sigma, in seconds, . the time interval TQ, difference between the time of the last speck (for the disappearance) or the time of the first speck (for the reappearance) and the time of the mid-event (half brightness). It represents the semi-duration of the event. . the NSDB codes of the sites of observation and observer, as given in the two files tab_vatoir_ec.dat and tab_vator_ec.dat. Reference Further details on the original observations can be found in: - Lieske, J.H., 1986, Astron. Astrophys. Suppl. Series 63, 143-202. - Lieske, J.H., 1986, Astron. Astrophys. 154, 61-76. The O-C and TQ values are computed following: - Thuillot, W.: 1989, Prediction des phenomenes des satellites gali- leens, Note Scientifique et Technique du Bureau des Longitudes, S015 - Arlot, J.-E., 1982, New constants for Sampson-Lieske theory of the Galilean Satellites of Jupiter, Astron. Astrophys. 107, 305. format This is a sequential file and each observation is given as a record of 132 bytes with the following format i5,4i3,f5.1,2x,a9,a1,f11.1,i5,i8,i6,i8,5x,a55 with: - the observed time of the observation reduced to the mid-event in UTC with the year i5 the month i3 the day i3 hours i3 minutes i3 seconds f5.1,2x - the name of the observed satellite a9 - the code of event a1 - O-C in seconds f11.1 - the a priori uncertainty sigma (sec.) i5 - the interval TQ in seconds i8 - the code of the site i6 - the code of the observer i8,5x - comments, and nature of the original observation (first/last specks or mid-event) a55 2) - The file tab_vatoir_ec.dat Contents - 426 names of the observational sites with the code of them.
