« On the morning of the 6th of December the weather did not look very promising, and between nine and ten o'clock snow fell in considerable quantities. The sky cleared, however, shortly after eleven o'clock, the weather remained as fine as could be desired, a few light clouds only passing now and then, but fortunately not at any of the critical moments. »
